The Power And Weakness Of Women

Women are very strong individuals who deal with many natural changes during a lifetime such as pregnancy, menopause and the monthly inconvenience of the menstrual cycle. Due to the fact that all these factors are natural many women simply put up with the symptoms and other discomforts during these stages.

However, all natural occurrences in a woman’s natural course of life have different influences on her body such as an hormonal imbalance, which can lead to depression at times. Women always try and put a strong front, but women’s mental health is fragile and can easily be disturbed should any of the natural factors go out of hand.

Between Facts and Myth

Many women even today simply put up with many daily discomforts because they were told this is a natural thing and they have to deal with it; many women put up with depressive moods and some even end up with suicidal thoughts or worse because they do nothing about it until it is too late.

Women’s mental health is as prone to snapping as that of a man’s therefore, it is important you learn about your body and try to provide it with the required help when needed. During menstrual cycles, pregnancy and menopause to many a few of the instance that women’s mental health is put at risk, hormonal imbalance occur which influence your moods vastly.

Hormonal imbalances can cause symptoms such as irritability, anger for no reason, sadness for no apparent reason, loss of appetite or huge appetite, sleeplessness or over sleeping and lack of interest to socialize or take part in any activity. Women’s mental health is affected during these periods of time and at times, it can turn into depression.

Speak Out When You Hurt

The very first step you need to take it to speak out and let other know you hurt or that you need help. Today the majority cases of women who suffer from depression is because they never knowledge it in the first place. Accept the fact that these are normal symptoms and that you can do something about them with medication or other activities such as exercise, meditation and other relaxing hobbies which naturally improve women’s mental health.

There are many women’s health clinics that will be happy to assist you with both information and cure alike should you decide you need any of the above. You deserve a happy, healthy life too and you are the only one who can take the first step in this direction.

Headache indicates a pain in the head. Headache can be either mild or severe. Medically headache is termed as “cephalgia.” Causes of headaches are many and varied. For example, stress and tension in one’s life leads to headache. Lifestyle pressure with high demands of jobs, high workloads creates tension thereby leading to headache. There are also certain other factors which precipitate headaches such as insomnia which is caused due to lack of proper sleep, lack of proper appetite and the like.

Headaches are mainly of four types; namely, vascular headache, myogenic headache, traction headache and inflammatory headache. The most common type of vascular headache is migraine, which is characterized by a pain which is severe in either or both the sides of the brain. Migraine often leads to blur vision and sometimes creates an upset stomach. Migraine is a pulsating form of headache which is unilateral associated with vomiting, nausea, depression and sensitivity to sound, light, smell etc. Migraine causes are unknown. Causes of migraine headache are many and varied. For example, stress and tension in one’s life leads to headache. Lifestyle pressure with high demands of jobs, high workloads creates tension thereby leading to migraine. More than 75% of women are migraine sufferers.

Another form of vascular headache is cluster headache which is caused due to high blood pressure. Headache caused by tension is the most common form of myogenic headache, which tightens or tenses facial and neck muscles. The traction and inflammatory types of headaches are caused due to a disorder which ranges from strokes to sinus infection. Headaches are generally harmless and can be diagnosed though persistent care is necessary for vascular headache especially for migraine.

Sinus headache is a type of headache which is caused due to the pressure of the sinus cavities. Sinus headache is felt by pain and compassion in the sinus areas, nasal blocking and swelling of the face, facial pain fever etc. The common aspect of sinusitis is generally the common cold. Sinus headache can be overcome through simple medication of painkillers like paracetamol, aspirin etc, by inhaling steam, hot drinks like soup, tea coffee and rest. Sinus headache if not taken precaution will lead to pneumonia and bronchitis. Sinus headache which is characterized by sinus cavities affects the eyes too. But it is to be noted out here that headache either mild or severe should be consulted with the doctor and thus necessary precautions should thereby be undertaken to prevent it.

Alcohol And Drug Abuse In Mental Health

Alcohol abuse is overrated, while drug abuse is underrated. The DSM manual suggests that substance abuse there are differences in the definition of drug and alcohol use. To confuse matters worse the law has its own version of who is an alcoholic or drug addict. Some of the symptoms that help professionals determine if alcohol and drugs are a problem include, excessive drinking/drugging, problems with the law, withdrawal symptoms, shaking of the hands, and so forth.

If a person drinks everyday of the week and relies on alcohol, then you are probably dealing with an alcoholic. There are philosophers who claim if a person needs a drink at breakfast, that he or she is an alcohol. Some philosophers claim that if you drink more than six-pack weeks then you are an alcoholic.

The fact is, most of the people nagging or evaluating alcohol and drugs has a problem them self or has gotten help someone in their lifetime to treat their own problems. Therefore, as you can see addictions, dependant alcoholics, and other types of alcoholics and drug addicts may alter. First all, any chemical that causes harm is a potential danger to your being.

In other words if you start out drinking when you are fourteen and continue through your lifetime without alcohol causing you trouble, or else landing you a spot in jail, then you are probably not an alcoholic according to few. The fact is the ones that are drinking and driving and getting caught are alcoholics according to the system although the level of alcohol in the blood plays a role in the determination.

The truth is the law sometimes over dramatizes and the system is out to make all the money they can, so we all might be alcoholics by the time they are done with us. Alcoholism and drug addictions are complex, in the sense there are too many misconstrued inputs and often the label is placed on individuals according to culture and history. If you parents drank alcohol then the system sometimes will claim you as an alcoholic.

The fact is, Jesus drink wine in moderation, so drinking in moderation is not a bad thing. The problem becomes a problem when the person has difficulty putting down the bottle and/or increases their intake as well as combining drugs with the alcohol to get an affect they was had. If someone will steal or lie to get alcohol or drugs then you know they have a real problem.

However, most alcoholics and drug addicts have bigger problems than addictions and this is often ignored. For example, people with mental illnesses often resort to alcohol and/or drugs to find relief of their symptoms. Now if a professional is treating this person for his or her diagnose and progress is moving along the person often feels healthy and the alcohol and drugs are out the door.

In my studies and opinions, I disagree with alcoholism and drug addictions if the person is able to stop once the mental illness is treated. This means that the person was suffering and the substances was a mechanism to help them cope.

On the other hand, if the person is treated for mental illnesses and his or her drug and alcohol habits continue, then I think you had better get out the chair and start talking ‘one day at a time.’ Alcohol was once known as the “Devils Drink.” The White men are the originator of the source, and since its beginning it has caused serious complications, including death, abuse, and other related crimes.

Drugs are optional since the system often makes them available by teaching individuals what the drugs contain. The root of all-evil is money, and if a person sees that he or she can gain, they may take advantage, but fall into a snare in between. The system is overwrought, since they put alcoholics and drugs addicts in jail and not seeking help for them.

The solution to humankind’s problem is helping and not hurting or promoting. If we can’t get along now, what makes you think you are going to heaven?

Supporting A Friend With Mental Health Difficulties

Someone who is experiencing mental health difficulties is usually able to live a successful full life, particuarly if they are receiving help to manage their illness. However, it is not uncommon for stigma to be attached to experiencing mental health difficulties. This often causes people to feel embarrassed. Often people with mental health difficulties worry that people will tease them or treat them differently. There are some things that you may want to do to help your friend feel more comfortable, these are:

Avoid being judgmental – Being aware of the stigma. Keeping an open mind may help to create a safe environment for your friend which may mean they are more likely to relax and enjoy themselves. Talk about what they find helpful – Make conversations about their mental health difficulties easy and open. Try asking about what helps them when things are tough. By talking openly, you are letting the person know about your love and support for them. You may like to talk about what you have read and ask how they feel about it.

Respecting your friend’s limits – There may be times when your friend says they are not able to do something because of their illness. It is important that you respect this and don’t put extra pressure on them. Often those who are taking medication are not able to drink alcohol. This may make it hard for your friend in certain social situations. If you know that your friend is unable to drink it may be a helpful when you do hang out to choose to do something that doesn’t involve alcohol.

Encouraging your friend to stay with their medication – It is likely that someone with long-term mental illness will be on regular medication. This may have side effects, which mean your friend may not like taking the medication. However, medication is often an important part of managing the illness and your friend may need your support to stick at it.

If your friend stops using or changes the amount of medication they use without getting the OK from their psychiatrist or doctor, encourage them to make an appointment quickly. Similarly if they are experiencing side effects that weren’t expected they should also contact their psychiatrist or doctor.

Ensure that you have contact numbers – Having the contact numbers of people like their psychologist, doctor or psychiatrist is often important in helping your friend through a crisis. It means that you can contact someone who knows your friend should they be unsafe.

Getting help for your friend

For those who have a mental health difficulty, there may be periods when things are not manageable. Harder times may be triggered if your friend has been over-stressed or there has been a traumatic event or a change in medication. These things can trigger the characteristics of the mental illness they experience. This is often called an episode.

If you are concerned that your friend is not behaving as they normally would then it is important to encourage them to talk to someone they trust like their doctor, psychologist or psychiatrist. If you think that your friend is likely to hurt themselves or someone else find some help immediately even if they don’t want you to.

Looking after yourself

Sometimes when we are helping a friend we forget to look after our ourselves. It is important to also take care of your own needs as well as helping your friend. Make sure that you don’t give up things that you enjoy and if you are feeling tired or ovwhelmed take some time out and relax.

5 Tips To Keep Your Mental Health In Shape As You Diet

Losing weight and going on a diet can be quite challenging! As someone who has lost over 50 pounds, I will share a bit of my dieting wisdom with you.

1. Throw Out that Scale! Of course we all want to keep track of our progress, but stepping on that scale everyday isn’t the way to do it. In fact, it can keep us from focusing on what we really should be focusing on. A preoccupation with what the scale reads can cause us to become dependent and depressed. Instead, keep close attention to how you feel–lack of energy and tiredness could be an indication that you are failing to loose weight in the healthiest way. On the other hand, increased energy could be a sign that you are becoming healthier. Focus on what your body tells you–monitor how clothes are fitting you. This is a much more positive way of monitoring your weight loss. Save the scale for regular doctor’s checkups or occuasional, periodic use.

2. Set Realistic Goals. Trying to “lose weight fast” is often times not only impractical, but also dangerous. Set goals that you know can be feasibly integrated into your daily routine. Not only are quick weight loss attempts often difficult to maintain, but they can also be hazardous to your health–causing you to ruin your metabolism and rapidly regain the weight as soon as you stop your diet.

3. Expect Fallbacks. We all have our bad days. Being hard on yourself for breaking your diet and falling back on your weight goals is part of the process! Frustration can make it even harder to get back on track. Instead, look forward and decide ways in which you can be more dedicated to your goals. Keeping a journal can help.

4. Praise Yourself Often. Remember, attaining your weight goals is just as much a mental process as it is a physical one. For this reason, it is important to keep yourself motivated. Think of ways to positively reward yourself. For example: get your nails done or have a guys-only night out. There are all kinds of ways to pamper yourself without spending too much money. Be creative!

5. Be Open with your Doctor. If you are struggling in acheiving your goals, don’t keep trying to do it alone! Contact your doctor. He/she may be able to help you customize your goals or refer you to a nutritionist or other professional trained to help patients mentally and physically stay on track when loosing weight.

Above all, remember that losing weight does not mean foregoing fun and ignoring what your mind and emotions tell you. In fact, paying attention to your mental state can ultimately mean far better results. Forget about the scale, be realistic, reward yourself, and, if needed, seek professional assistance. With the right mindset, you will already be well on your way to reaching your weight loss goals!
